The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has sought a detailed report from senior police officials after expressing concern over the handling of missing minor girls' cases in the city. The observations came during proceedings related to a habeas corpus petition in which a 12-year-old girl was eventually traced following judicial intervention.
Court Demands Accountability From Senior Police Officials
Taking note of the matter, the High Court directed DCP East Deeksha Sharma to submit a comprehensive report within three days regarding the status of cases falling under her jurisdiction. The court also instructed the concerned station house officers, circle officers and investigating officers to appear personally on the next date of hearing.
The Bench further sought an explanation from Lucknow Police Commissioner Amarendra Sengar regarding similar incidents reported from different police stations across the city. The court indicated that cases involving missing minor girls require prompt monitoring and stronger supervision at every level.
Data Reveals Several Girls Still Untraced
During the hearing, an affidavit placed before the court reportedly showed that one police jurisdiction had registered 81 cases involving missing minor girls. Out of these cases, 15 girls were yet to be traced.
The figures raised concerns before the court, which treated the issue as a matter requiring immediate attention from senior authorities.
The proceedings were originally linked to a habeas corpus petition concerning a 12-year-old girl. Following the court's intervention, the child was recovered, leading the Bench to examine the status of other pending cases involving missing minors.
