Sensex and Nifty Extend Rally as IT Stocks Rise; Trent Gains 6% on Strong Earnings

October 30, 2026

Indian benchmark equity indices continued their upward movement in early trading on Friday, October 30, 2026, supported by buying in information technology stocks and strong demand for Trent following its latest quarterly earnings announcement.

The BSE Sensex advanced 138.77 points to 74,289.81, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 38.95 points to reach 22,967.10 during the opening hours.

Trent emerged as one of the session’s strongest performers, rising around 6%. The Tata Group’s retail business reported a 25% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹468 crore for the September quarter. Improved revenue and operating leverage supported its performance despite inflationary pressures.

IT stocks also contributed to the market’s positive movement. Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra were among the notable gainers. InterGlobe Aviation and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries also traded higher.

However, the advance was not broad-based across all major companies. Bharat Electronics, State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement and Tata Steel were among the Sensex constituents facing selling pressure.

Oil Prices and Foreign Investor Activity Remain in Focus

Global market signals were mixed during the morning session. Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, rose 1.19% to $116.30 per barrel. Higher crude prices can increase concerns about costs for oil-importing economies such as India and may influence investor sentiment.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold Indian equities worth ₹943.60 crore on Thursday, October 29, according to exchange data. Their selling activity remained one of the factors being monitored by market participants.

Across Asia, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Shanghai’s SSE Composite were trading lower, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng moved higher. US markets had also closed lower in the previous session.

Previous Session’s Strong Gains Support Market Momentum

The latest gains followed a strong performance on Thursday. The Sensex had advanced 905.01 points, or 1.24%, to close at 74,151.04. The Nifty gained 237.90 points, or 1.05%, ending the session at 22,936.75.

The early movement on Friday indicated that buying interest was continuing, particularly in IT companies and stocks reporting encouraging quarterly results. However, elevated crude prices, foreign investor selling and mixed international market trends remained important factors for investors to watch.

For businesses and investors, market movements can also underline the importance of informed financial planning and risk assessment. Strategic advisory services can support businesses in evaluating financial decisions and longer-term priorities.

Trent’s Results Provide a Boost to Sentiment

Trent’s quarterly performance was a key company-specific trigger behind the early market gains. Its 25% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹468 crore highlighted continued earnings growth, helping the stock attract investor attention.

The company’s results also drew attention to revenue growth and operating leverage as important contributors to profitability. Reuters separately reported that Trent’s revenue from operations increased 22% year-on-year to ₹5,873 crore for the quarter.

The broader market, meanwhile, remained uneven, with gains in several IT and consumer-linked stocks offset by declines in selected banking, metal and infrastructure shares.

The early rally therefore reflected a combination of company earnings and sector-specific buying, rather than a uniform rise across the market. Investors continued to assess corporate results alongside crude oil prices, foreign fund flows and international market cues
