Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called for a stable, simple and taxpayer-friendly tax system while launching PRARAMBH 2026, a nationwide awareness campaign focused on the Income Tax Act, 2025.
The campaign, launched by the Income Tax Department on March 20, is designed to help taxpayers understand the new law through simplified communication, educational material and digital engagement. The Income Tax Act, 2025, came into effect from April 1, 2026.
Focus on Simplicity and Taxpayer Trust
Addressing the launch event, Sitharaman emphasised the importance of stability and clarity in the new tax framework. She called for an empathetic, technology-driven and trust-based tax administration, with fewer unnecessary changes so taxpayers can better understand their obligations.
The government said the broader reform effort is aimed at making tax administration more citizen-centric while improving compliance and reducing confusion. The Finance Ministry also highlighted that India's direct and indirect tax systems are being overhauled simultaneously, describing the move as an important step in modernising tax administration.
For individuals and businesses adapting to the new framework, accurate financial records and timely compliance remain important. Professional bookkeeping services in india can help businesses maintain organised financial records and prepare effectively for changing tax and compliance requirements.
Income Tax Website 2.0 and Kar Saathi
As part of the initiative, the Finance Minister also inaugurated Income Tax Website 2.0, which is intended to provide simpler navigation, improved usability and more efficient digital services for taxpayers.
The department also introduced Kar Saathi, an AI-enabled chatbot designed to provide information and assistance relating to the new Income Tax Act, rules and forms. Taxpayers will also continue to receive support through Aaykar Seva Kendras.
Nationwide Awareness Campaign
PRARAMBH 2026 includes guidance notes, brochures, FAQs, tutorial videos and digital engagement initiatives. The campaign also features multilingual communication to make information about the new tax framework more accessible across the country.
According to the government, the initiative is intended to reach taxpayers beyond major cities through nationwide outreach and stakeholder engagement. The campaign is also linked with MyGov initiatives designed to improve public awareness and participation.
Conclusion
PRARAMBH 2026 marks a major taxpayer-awareness initiative accompanying the implementation of the Income Tax Act, 2025. By combining simplified guidance, digital services and direct public engagement, the government aims to make India's tax administration more accessible, predictable and taxpayer-focused.
