An 11-year-old student lost his life and four other children were injured after a tree collapsed onto a school bus in Mumbai's Chembur area on Tuesday afternoon, triggering renewed scrutiny of urban tree management and public safety during the monsoon season.
The victim, Vihan Shrivastav, was travelling home from Universal School when the tree fell onto the bus carrying 13 students. Emergency responders, the bus conductor and local residents quickly rescued the trapped children and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.

According to Dr. Roy Patankar, Director of Zen Multispeciality Hospital, two injured children underwent additional diagnostic examinations, including CT scans, while the remaining two were also medically evaluated.
Doctors stated that all four injured students are in stable condition and continue to receive treatment.

Authorities said there were 13 children on board the school bus when the tree collapsed.
The prompt response by the bus conductor, emergency personnel and local residents enabled the rapid evacuation of students from the damaged vehicle, helping prevent further casualties.
