A 37-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district allegedly died by suicide after reportedly suffering prolonged mental distress linked to an alleged job fraud and blackmail case.
The victim, identified as Manmohan Singh alias Monu, was a resident of Mawana Khurd village in the Mawana area. Police said he was found hanging at his residence on Thursday morning.
A forensic team inspected the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Victim Accused Suspect in Final Video
During the preliminary investigation, police recovered a video message allegedly recorded by Manmohan before his death.
In the video, he reportedly accused a man named Kunal Singhaniya, a resident of the Inchauli area, of taking around ₹6 lakh from him on the promise of securing employment.
The victim alleged that despite repeated assurances, the promised job was never arranged and the money was not returned.
He reportedly said he had trusted the accused but later felt trapped as the suspect avoided contact and continued making excuses.
Alleged Use of Victim’s Account Under Probe
According to the allegations, the suspect not only took money directly from Manmohan but also allegedly used his bank account to route funds received from other job seekers.
Investigators are examining whether money was deposited into the victim’s account and then transferred onward to the suspect to obscure the financial trail.
Police are also probing claims that the accused collected money from other people using Manmohan’s name.
Blackmail and Intimidation Allegations
The video message also reportedly contains allegations of coercion and blackmail.
Manmohan allegedly claimed that the accused took him to Lucknow on multiple occasions and forced him into compromising situations.
He reportedly feared that these incidents could later be used against him to claim that the money collected in the job fraud had been spent on personal activities.
The victim also alleged that he was being mentally harassed and blackmailed in connection with a woman being brought to a house.
Protests Outside Mawana Police Station
After news of the death spread, the victim’s family members and local villagers gathered outside the Mawana police station, demanding strict action.
The crowd reportedly attempted to block the main road for a brief period before police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Jagmohan Singh, police registered a case against Kunal Singhaniya and several unidentified persons under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police Examine Phone, Bank Records and Video Evidence
Police said a dedicated team is analysing:
- The victim’s phone records
- Bank transaction history
- The recovered video file
- Communications with the accused
- Possible links to other job seekers
- The role of unidentified associates
Authorities are working to locate the absconding suspects and determine whether the case is linked to a wider employment fraud network.
