A 24-year-old medical student from Hyderabad has been arrested by police in Tirupati following a complaint alleging deception over marriage, pressure to change religion and threats involving private digital material.
The accused, identified as Rayeed, reportedly knew the complainant from the time when both were studying MBBS in Georgia. Police said their association continued after their studies before the dispute escalated during a recent meeting in Tirupati.
Complaint Leads to Police Investigation
According to investigators, the woman approached police after an alleged disagreement over marriage plans.
Police said the complainant alleged that Rayeed made religious conversion a condition for proceeding with the marriage. After she refused, he allegedly threatened to share private photographs and videos with other people, including her relatives, and on social-media platforms.
Following the complaint, Alipiri police began efforts to locate the accused and investigate the allegations.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the accused have not been established by a court.
Accused Traced to Hyderabad
Investigators reportedly traced Rayeed to his residence in the Akbar Bagh area of Malakpet, Hyderabad.
He was arrested there and subsequently taken to Tirupati, where he was produced before a local court after the required legal procedures.
Police also seized a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra believed to be relevant to the investigation.
Phone Sent for Forensic Examination
The seized smartphone has been forwarded for forensic analysis.
Investigators are expected to examine call records, messages, stored files and other digital information to determine whether the material supports or contradicts the allegations made in the complaint.
Digital evidence can be particularly important in cases involving alleged online threats because communication records may help investigators establish the sequence and context of interactions.
Police are also expected to consider witness statements and other evidence collected during the investigation before determining the next steps in the case.
Police Warn Against Digital Blackmail
Authorities have advised people facing threats involving private photographs, videos or personal information not to comply with coercive demands.
Officials have also stressed the importance of preserving messages, call records, screenshots and other relevant digital evidence instead of deleting them.
People facing such harassment can approach law-enforcement authorities and seek appropriate legal assistance. Digital evidence may play an important role in establishing what was communicated and when.
The case is continuing through the legal process, with investigators examining the available digital and testimonial evidence. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the court proceedings.
