The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have registered cases against Meta India head Arun Srinivas, along with several Facebook and Instagram accounts, over posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi that authorities say were morphed or AI-generated.
According to police, the content in question was circulated on social media during the recent protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against the alleged NEET paper leak. Officers reviewing the posts linked to the protests reportedly found abusive and profane material among them.
The cases stem from complaints filed by two individuals: S. Aravind Reddy, a businessman, and T. Saikiran Goud, a Telangana BJP activist. Both complainants alleged that, while browsing Instagram, they came across multiple digitally manipulated videos and images that portrayed the Prime Minister in a manner they described as obscene, derogatory, and misleading.
Police are now investigating the origin and circulation of the flagged content across the platforms named in the complaints, with Meta India's leadership brought into the case given the company's role in hosting the accounts and content in question. Further details on the scope of the investigation are expected as the police proceed with their inquiry.
