Two Men Detained at Goa Airport Over Alleged IIT Goa Recruitment Exam Malpractice

October 12, 2026

Goa, October 12, 2026: Two passengers travelling to New Delhi were detained at Goa International Airport in Dabolim after security personnel allegedly recovered electronic equipment suspected of being linked to malpractice in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa recruitment examination.

According to a report by The420.in, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intercepted the men during pre-departure screening on Saturday, October 10. The passengers were scheduled to travel on Air India Express flight IX 1340, which was due to depart for Delhi at 2:25 pm.

Security personnel reportedly recovered electronic communication equipment, SIM cards and miniature Bluetooth earpieces. The two men were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

The allegations have not yet been established in court.

Suspicious Baggage Leads to Security Intervention

The incident reportedly began when CISF personnel noticed suspicious items during an X-ray screening of a passenger’s handbag.

A subsequent physical inspection allegedly revealed three electronic units, two SIM cards and three Bluetooth earpieces. The equipment raised concerns about possible links to the recruitment examination held earlier that day at the IIT Goa campus.

According to the source report, one of the detained passengers allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning that the equipment had been used in connection with the examination.

The same report states that the individual claimed to have impersonated a genuine applicant using a forged identity document. Investigators are reportedly examining these claims and reviewing available CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.

The alleged impersonation and use of forged credentials remain matters for investigators to verify.

Second Passenger Removed From Aircraft

The investigation reportedly expanded after the first detainee indicated that another person accompanying him had already boarded the Delhi-bound flight.

Security personnel coordinated with airline staff to locate and remove the second passenger before departure.

A search of his carry-on baggage allegedly uncovered another electronic transceiver, two Bluetooth earpieces, a SIM card and an admit card for the Administrative Assistant recruitment examination.

Investigators are examining the recovered items to determine whether the passengers acted together and whether the equipment was used during the examination. The technical analysis may also help establish the devices’ capabilities and their possible connection to the alleged misconduct.

The recovery of equipment alone does not establish the precise role played by either individual. That will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.

Police Take Over the Investigation

According to The420.in, the CISF handed both men and the seized materials to the Dabolim Airport Police Station. The case was subsequently transferred to Ponda Police for further investigation.

Investigators are expected to examine several key questions, including whether a genuine candidate’s identity was misused, how the alleged impersonation occurred and whether additional individuals were involved.

Authorities will also need to establish the connection between the recovered devices and the recruitment examination before determining the appropriate legal action.

Recruitment Exam Security Under Scrutiny

The incident highlights the challenges faced by examination authorities in protecting recruitment processes against alleged impersonation and the misuse of electronic equipment.

Competitive recruitment examinations require reliable identity verification, secure examination-centre procedures and effective monitoring. Coordination between examination officials, airport security and law enforcement can also be important when suspected irregularities are detected outside an examination venue.

For institutions conducting recruitment tests, the case underscores the importance of reviewing identity checks, reporting suspicious activity promptly and preserving relevant evidence for investigation.

Investigation to Establish the Facts

The two passengers were detained after the reported recovery of electronic equipment at Goa International Airport. Investigators are now tasked with determining whether the devices were connected to the alleged examination malpractice and whether the suspects acted in coordination.

Until the evidence is examined and the case proceeds through the legal process, the allegations should not be treated as proven. Further developments will depend on the findings of the police investigation.
