Punjab CTD Foils Major Terror Plot, Arrests 24 Militants Across Multiple Districts

Punjab CTD Foils Major Terror Plot, 24 Arrested

Authorities in Pakistan’s Punjab Province say they have thwarted a significant terror attempt after arresting 24 suspected militants during a series of intelligence-driven operations this week. Most of the individuals taken into custody are believed to be associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to a statement issued by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).

Officials said the arrests were the result of 364 coordinated intelligence-based operations conducted across several districts, uncovering weapons, explosives and equipment intended for attacks on key urban structures.

Arrests Follow Discovery of Explosives and Attack Plans

During the sweeping raids, CTD teams recovered a range of prohibited materials, including:

  • Approximately 5 kg of explosives

  • 24 detonators

  • Four fully assembled bombs

Investigators believe the group was preparing to strike important government and public buildings in multiple cities. Authorities have registered 24 separate cases against the suspects as inquiries continue.

Heightened Security After Spike in Regional Terror Activity

Punjab’s security forces remain on alert following a recent surge in attacks in neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and a deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad last month that killed 12 people.

Police leadership has ordered reinforced security arrangements for judicial complexes, government offices, and sensitive public spaces. Daily and weekly inspections have also been mandated to ensure compliance.

New Protocols for Weapons and Court Security

Punjab’s police chief, Dr. Usman Anwar, has introduced stricter weapon policies within judicial premises, restricting arms to authorised law enforcement only. District authorities have been instructed to set up command-and-control centres inside court facilities to improve surveillance and rapid response capability.

Extended Investigation Into Militant Networks

Officials say the latest arrests may represent just one layer of a broader network operating across provincial borders. With the interrogation of detainees ongoing, law enforcement expects additional disclosures that could lead to further arrests and disruption of linked cells.
