17,800 newly qualified chartered accountants inducted as ICAI holds nationwide convocation

New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India conducted its convocation ceremony across 15 locations on Monday, formally inducting 17,800 newly qualified professionals into the chartered accountancy profession. Membership certificates were issued to successful candidates, marking their official entry into one of India’s most regulated professional bodies.

The ceremonies were held simultaneously across major centres, with ICAI council members overseeing proceedings at each location. The main event was inaugurated from New Delhi, where newly enrolled members were addressed by senior leadership of the institute, including its president, vice-president, secretary and members of the central and regional councils.

Convocation marks transition into professional membership

According to an official statement, the ICAI conducts convocations twice a year to confer membership on candidates who complete the institute’s examination and mandatory training requirements. The event serves as a formal transition point from qualification to professional practice.

Alongside issuing membership certificates, the institute also felicitated rank holders from the recent examination cycle, recognising academic excellence and performance.

Northern and western regions lead new enrolments

Rather than releasing only a consolidated national figure, the ICAI shared a region-wise breakdown of new enrolments. The northern region recorded the highest number of newly inducted chartered accountants at 5,474, followed closely by the western region with 5,195.

The eastern region accounted for 3,205 new members, while the central region saw 2,670 enrolments. The southern region recorded 1,256 newly qualified professionals. Together, these figures total 17,800 candidates who applied for enrolment between July 16 and November 30, 2025.

The convocation ceremonies were organised in cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Indore, Ludhiana, Ghaziabad, Vijayawada and Ernakulam.

Expanding role of the CA profession highlighted

Speakers at the convocation underlined the evolving scope of the chartered accountancy profession beyond traditional roles in audit and taxation. According to the institute, chartered accountants are increasingly contributing to public finance management, transparency initiatives and accountability mechanisms across different levels of government.

References were also made to growing engagement with Panchayati Raj institutions, public sector audits and digital governance systems, reflecting the profession’s expanding role in India’s regulatory and compliance landscape.

Emphasis on ethics and continuous learning

The ICAI reiterated that membership carries ongoing responsibilities, including adherence to ethical standards, professional conduct regulations and continuous professional education. Newly inducted members were reminded that public trust in the profession depends on independence, integrity and technical competence.

As regulatory frameworks grow more complex, the demand for structured oversight and assurance continues to rise. This has reinforced the central role of qualified professionals in strengthening auditing services in india particularly across corporate, public sector and institutional domains.

The institute said it remains focused on supporting members through updated guidance, training initiatives and regulatory alignment as the profession adapts to changing economic and governance needs.
